The Cost of Transportation
The cost of transportation can vary-depending on the mode of transportation that you choose and what distance you may be traveling.
Transportation can be anything from a skateboard or roller blades to flying, and the cost of each plays an important role in deciding how you will travel and how far you will go.
Many methods of transportation are less expensive and are used for shorter distances, i.e.-skateboards, roller blades, and often bicycles. The cost of transportation when using these modes of transportation is typically the cost of the item itself and the cost of a helmet to protect your head.
There are other modes of travel that are reasonably affordable, but it truly depends on what city you are in. For example, many people that live in, or travel to, major metropolitan cities take taxi cabs once in the city. Tax cabs can be cost effective, and they will take you to the front door of the place you are traveling to. People that live and work in major cities often take their bicycles to work. Getting around a traffic jam in a car or taxi can be frustrating and time consuming; traveling on a bicycle allows you the freedom that a vehicle does not when a traffic jam occurs. When taking a taxi cab the cost of transportation is only the cab fare and a tip; when traveling by bicycle the cost of transportation is the cost to purchase the bike and a helmet.
When traveling long distances, buses and trains can be an affordable method of travel. The downside to traveling by bus or train is that the trip usually takes longer and makes many stops along the way. Many smaller cities do not have bus or train terminals, so you may need to travel to a larger city to catch a bus or train. With bus or train travel, the cost of your ticket is the only out of pocket expense.
Flying is the fastest mode of travel. Traveling by plane is not as expensive as it used to be and is definitely the only way to travel when going over seas. When traveling by plane, it is best to allow yourself plenty of time to park at the airport, get your luggage checked in and to get through the security system at the airport.
Finally, the most convenient, and the most popular method of travel is by personal vehicle. This mode of transportation is also one of the most costly. There are multiple things to consider when deciding to own and operate your own vehicle, and each of these things weighs in on the overall cost of transportation. First, you have to have a driver's license, then comes buying the car that you can afford. Other things to consider: insurance, gas, maintenance and repairs and yearly registration; all of these things added up can be a dent in one's budget.
Overall, when choosing a method of transportation that best suits your needs, consider where you are going; how fast you need to get there; how much you want to spend, and how comfortable you want to be. If you want to see the sights as you travel, take the bus or the train!
