Utilities
The biggest expense you will have other than the rent payment is the utilities. Electric bills, depending on your usage can rage anywhere from as low as $40 a-month to more than $200 a-month. You may get an idea about utility expenses by asking your potential neighbors how much their utility bills are if they are willing to share that information. Be sure to check this out before signing any rental or lease agreement.
Telephone and cable-TV service cost are other utility fees you will need to look at as well. Phone service will cost about $20-$30 a-month depending on the number of long distance calls you make. If you desire cable or satellite TV, then factor in another $30-$50 a-month for basic service alone not including premium channel fees.
Most apartments you will find include water and trash pickup in with the rent cost, check to be absolutely sure, especially if you are not moving into a place that is not part of a complex of apartments.
All of these costs can be reduced by finding a roommate, although be very picky on who you choose to live with. |
